Hi, my name is Huiran Yi (易慧然). I am a PhD Candidate at the University of Michigan School of Information. I work with Dr. Silvia Lindtner and am the Research Operations Lead for the Center for Ethics, Society, and Computing (ESC). I am also a member of the tech. culture. matters. research collective and Global Media and Communication Collective at the University of Michigan.

My qualitative and interpretive research explores the social and cultural aspect of technology with transnational attention on contemporary global China. Grounded in digital media studies, human-computer interactions, and China studies, my research focuses on three main streams: (1) labor within data-driven sociotechnical systems, (2) social media platforms as a governance institution, and (3) community-based collaborative work within marginalized populations.

My publications can be found as linked PDFs in the “Publications” section and are also available on my Google Scholar page.
